Bootie Tips
The number one rule for training your pooch to wear the booties is BE PATIANT AND CONSISTANT! It would also help to have a bag full of yummy, low-calorie treats on hand. Be sure to have your dog’s favourite. When you have purchased the Paws, Claws, N’ Fins booties, it’s important to not just put them on and immediately go outside. Introduce them slowly, and only have your dog wear them for a moment. Start with just one bootie. Be sure to reward your dog when she wears a bootie for the first time. When she is finally used to wearing the booties, and generally likes them, you may then let her walk around. Start her off walking around in just one bootie, and, if possible, do it on a carpet where she can't slip. Give LOTS of treats/praise/pets if she comes to you without kicking the booties off. Always end your training session with something good that she has done. Only when your dog hardly notices walking around the house in her booties do you let her try them outside. Be happy and positive. Soon enough, your dog will be romping around in her booties!
Also, make sure that the velcro straps are tightened enough that she cannot shake them off. Make sure that your dog's nails are cut and filed. Walking around with long nails in booties is painful. I also don't suggest that you buy booties for puppies that like to eat everything. Not only is it dangerous for your pup (as he could suffocate, choke, or get a bootie trapped in his stomach), but you'll also end up with tons of teeth marks in your new, now ruined, boots.
